I know the year isn't finished quite yet (Well not down here!) but I thought I might take some time to reflect on the past months. I have now been given a second half plot so the missus is taking that on, very successfully I might add. I also tried home made seed tapes for my roots - carrots, beetroot etc with some success; though the plan was to cut down the thinning out, I was a bit stingey with some of the seeds so not so many grew in the first place but it wasn't too bad for a first try. Successes included beetroot, onions, garlic and shallots along with the usual reliables beans, peas (though not broad beans) and salads. Also had some toms, cucumbers and chillies in a poly tunnel which did very well - the toms are just ripening now. New trials included celeriac, kohl rabi and artichokes which we got from someone who was giving up their plot and all are going very well.

Disasters - cabbages and brassicas in general apart from the Caballo Nero and a couple of spring cabbage and calabrese flower heads. Looking to beef up the barrier defences for next year.

All in all a good year and now getting the green manure in for the winter. So here's to next season, good gardening.
