It's the flavour. I always grow Butterboy but decided on a change this year and tried DTB's Walnut BN squash. Healthy harvest of 5 squashes so the plant production was good however I was disappointed with the taste. It wasn't very sweet and needed extra seasoning to enhance the flavour. Has anyone else grown or noticed this?

See: kippersorganic.com/squash. Squashes need to be cured and stored for their sweet flavour to develop.

For the sweetest taste, do not harvest until all the foliage has died down. The plant stores all the nutrients from the leaves in the squashes.

Thanks RF but I did, even the stalk to the actual fruit was dead and rock hard. Think I'll go back to Butter Boy next year or perhaps try Harrier.
