hi all,

i've had a fantastic crop of both damsons and plum this year after a really bad year last year.  my damson tree's however are weeping a gluey type substance out of their bark, the plums seem fine.  is this canker disease or not and is there something i can do about it or are my trees doomed

thanks in advance

There is not much what you can do about it if there is this 'weeping' going on. Stone fruits do tend to have this 'sappy' stuff coming out..little amounts are 'normal' and particularly if it sets (gummosis).
However...if the 'stuff' is constantly 'wet' and weeping doesn't calm down, then there is concern for more serious stuff going on.
Bacterial infection(bacterial canker) of the stone fruit trees cause 'weeping' / 'bleeding' and it is often fatal too.
There is few things you can do...more about it here.. http://www.kenmuir.co.uk/image/data/pdf/Fact%20Sheets/BacterialCanker2013.pdf
