Rhubarb - pathetic !!

That's reassuring to know! I can't say I'm a rhubarb expert in any way, but I do love to eat it and I think it's worth the extra work to get it back to its presumed former glory.

I bet my rhubarb was neglected by the previous owner of the house too, but the man who owned it before that had it when it was first built in the 1960s (I think) and grew vegetables for years. Not that you can tell, my soil is horrible heavy clay that spends half the winter under inches of water but it's fertile enough that the weeds have a field day.

Stupid clay. ;)
