Small butternut squashes

I've successfully grown a number of different varieties over the years and all have provided me with squashes of around 3kg/6lb. My wife isn't too keen on squashes but does cook then for me but there is always so much wasted. Has anyone grown a small variety?

Squashes freeze well, either raw or roasted, so no need to waste any.

I have grown hooligan, and Jack be little, nice little squashes for cooking whole for single person serving.

I envy you, none of my butternuts ever reach that size!

I grow Avalon F1 and they are usually about 1-1.5kg in weight. I also grow potimarron and find they are perfect for 2 people, or 2 meals.

How small do you want them to be, there is a mini butternut and are you interested in any other small squash..XX Jeannine

Butternut 'Ponca' is smaller than normal butternuts or short vined 'Butterbush'.

But, as said above, why waste any when they freeze so well. Both before and after cooking.  A butternut that has been cut in half also stores in the fridge for at least a week.

My Avalon are quite big.  I suggest Hawk and not feeding the plant so much.

I like Tromba d'albenga because you can use on a cut and come again basis because the cut reseals so you can use for more than a week.
