Any recommendations for a good value-for-money nursery for, in particular, cottage garden type plants?

Definitely not Van Meuwen!

Trouble is the cost of P & P is prohibitive for all but the most specialist plants or bare roots.  For my money I would have a troll round garden centres right now, last week I bought 8 big healthy phloxes reduced from £7.99 to £1 each and on exiting came to a trolley of plants all down to 50p including clematis, astrantias and even a David Austin Rose!.  There are a lot of clearance bargains out there, and you get to feel like a modern day 'plant hunter'.

I'm just rather struggling to find many plants I like in the DIY shops (because they are all that are left here, unfortunately). I suspect I may have to start growing from seed more!
