I'm asking this for somebody's else behalf as I don't have no idea myself...
is there such a thing/device invented that could be used in a well to indicate when the water level drop into certain level..like a alarm?
Old chap in lottie has submersible pump that is run with generator but he is finding bit bother to always having to keep check where the water level is so his pump don't run dry.
Ideally there would be something that would buzz or make noise of some sort when the water has got low level.
Well..I'm really looking forward hearing any answers to his...mind boggles.. :drunken_smilie:

I googled low water level alarms & quite a few options came up.
This seemingly simple one on ebay for example -

You don't mention how deep the well is when the water level is OK but you could consider a ' float' arrangement.  Large fishing float if you like.

What is in my mind is a vertical pole that come above the rim of the well  so that you can see it.

Then you put two marks on the pole one at the point when the water is at its highest point and the other when it is at its lowest.

Then you will always know what level the water is at.

Its only an idea but I think it might work.

Inciidentally; I don't know if anyone makes such a thing but I think a handyman could soon knock up such an arrangement.

Over to you...Tg

A float and switch system that connects to the on\off switch on the generator. I've seen one that works the opposite way on a riverside property that was prone to flooding. Should be pretty easy to adapt the wiring to cut off the power  instead of switching it on.

I think the well is about 20 ft deep or so...and there is no electricity available other than  what the generator do for the pump so that is limiting.
I'll have to have a chat with the old chap and see how he actually checks the water level at the moment, he just mentioned to me "I could do with some sort of alarm.."
I'm not familiar this sort of stuff...and I suspect nor is he as he is often asking help with some technical stuff..but..I shall pass the good news and see what his reaction is...if he gets really interested about it I shall start digging into it and teaching myself to sort it out...as I've put my foot in it already...
I was doing bit of googling last night...and mind boggles already :drunken_smilie:
Thanks for giving me a start to what to look for..

OH...and TeeGee....I know what exactly what you were trying to explain with the 'floater'..and I might already have such a 'stuff' available from which to construct it from, in theory at least...
I'm thinking of loooong irrigation piping....floating polystyrene 'plug' with light glass fibre rod in the pipe(adjusted into right length)...and when the rod disappear into the piping..the water level has gone into low level. It's not actually 'alarm'...but easier way to detect what is going on in well.
It certainly would be cheap and 'easy' way doing it.. but it ain't 'alarm' and you have to be on your 'toes' to keep eye on it...
We'll see what  happens...

Just drop a stone down it if you hear a splash, there is water in it. if you hear a clunk it is empty.
