McCulloch Petrol lawnmowers

I have a McCullough petrol lawnmower purchased last year £180 to replace a faulty other petrol mower that broke after 8 weeks.  The McCullough is heavy to push and takes several pulls of the cord to start compared to the previous which I cant remember.  Though it is a good cutter I am looking to replace it for a lighter mower.

Any suggestions for a lighter petrol mower suitable for large gardens greatly appreciated.  I don't mind emptying the grass collector more often if it is a little smaller.

The hard starting might just be a carburetor adjustment..

If the other lasted 8 weeks I hope you got your money back..

I would suggest going to an independent mower specialist and trade that one in for a power driven one so you do not have to push at all.

The lightest mowers are the hover mowers but they do not collect grass. but my father found best in his late 80's

Most mowers take a few pulls to start them, has it got a priming button? also the spark plug needs a good clean every 3 hours of use. The original McCulloch was made in Australia, but like everything else nowadays they are knocked up in china and just badged up by the sellers.

I am also re-priming on every start even after just emptying the grass bin.  It never used to be so difficult when we first purchased it and it has done some cutting the past year so I will check the spark plug.  If all else fails, it will be back to an electric mower next season.  The previous mower still took one or two pulls of the cord but was effortless compared to this, like being on a CV rowing machine max power & resistance.

Sounds like the rubber diaphragm in the carb has started to perish.
