Bonfire Ash

Hello all.

I've recently taken over an extra half plot. It had a big pile of bonfire ash which I've spread over the width of the plot (approximately 20 feet) and covered an area of about 4 feet in depth. The ash is still a quite dense covering, perhaps 0.25 of an inch, and I was going to plant brassicas in it as I seem to recall reading ash is good for them. I just thought I had better ask whether this is a good idea or not?

Just for clarity, I've covered an area of around 20ft x 4ft with ash to a depth of approximately 0.25 inches.

It very much depends on what was burned on the bonfire,if there was anything that could possibly have been toxic or harmful.then I would remove it and dispose of it,if you believe it was just wood etc you should be ok to dig it in and plant things where it has been.good luck
