I picked my second lot of asparagus yesterday.  Quite wonderful steamed with melted butter.
I put in three year old crowns, and they've had an additional two years in the allotment plot and this is the third year I've had them and the first for picking.
It's been a long wait, but by god it's worth it.
Some more due for the week-end I'm hoping after the recent rain.

If you can keep your head, whilst those around you are losing theirs,
you obviously don't realise the full horror of your situation.

Wonderful, isn't it! I put mine in in 2003 (I think) so they are very productive but very disappointingly late this year.

They are JUST starting off in time to spread in front of family gathering of 12 cousins and spouses next Tuesday, and even then I am going to have to present them as lightly cooked tips laid on herbed cream cheese on home made bread. There just won't be enough for a steaming plateful each with melted butter (plus some herbs and lemon juice) as I had planned back in January.....
