Brassica seedling identification?

OK- this is a basic  :newbie: mistake.
I planted 3 lots of seeds
PBS
NERO DI TOSCANA
KOHL RABI

in separate partitions of a windowsill propagator and of course in my current state of mind forgot to note which was where or where was what.
And of course they have all sprouted quite happily but I don't know whose who.
Guessing when they get bigger I may be able to tell and as brassicas they are all of similar needs so what does it really matter.
but I think you'll agree its a very silly mistake and I feel slightly foolish.

Welcome to the real world -well my world anyway  :toothy10: :toothy10: :toothy10:

been there - done that......................  we all have, well most of us

As belt and braces the alphabetical system works.  From left to right on the windowsill in alphabetical order.  You then only have to remember whether you ordered them by variety name or by vegetable name  :toothy10:

My biggest problem used to be trays of 24 and planting two varieties of bean seeds in the same tray.  Then couldn't tell which side was which  - now all my trays have a tipp-ex white dot top left.

NOra,

Here's some pics. The PBS is likely to have a purplish/red tinge on the leaf stems. The Kohl Rabi is going to be the biggest and fastest grower. The Nero will be er, the other one.

Ah ha so glad to be not alone.

thanks godfreyRob for the pictures I think i now have the little blighters identified.
Khol Rabi was bigger red tinge to stems
PSB red tinge to leaf and stems

and Nero di Toscana must be the smaller greener one.

next time I vow to make a note of some sort I like the tipex idea.

Your not the first Nora and certainly won't be the last to make that mistake.   :toothy10:
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

PSB needs to be spaced wider than the others, so try to work it out early enough to move them if necessary.

GodfreyRob,

the knowledge within this group never ceases to amaze me!  I had no idea that there are these differences at seedling stage in brassica.

Thank you for teaching us how to be much more observant.

I use a chalk pen to label almost everything. It wipes off but stays all summer especially during the rainy season.

I have previously planted what I was told was kale and was PSB, what I thought was cabbage and was romanesco and this year what I thought was a Durham spring cabbage gave me a cauliflower! Oh well, it all gets eaten!
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

I don't label nothing, (bad grammar I know) but I am so clever I will recognise the seeds when they come up.  Big, big mistake, but do like a good surprise, now was that tomatoes, or sunflower seeds, but as the cat is sleeping on them, who cares.  :drunken_smilie: :drunken_smilie:  Nothing is coming up at the moment so am just going to throw all of my out of date seeds on the allotment, and you never know I may get some carrots this year.  My peas are doing well, and some planted at the allotment, some in the plastic greenhouse, and I can recognise the peas.

I love it when we do that ( mixing seedling up) it is a surprise when it turns out to be something different from what you thought!

But...........not very practical. It's ok if you just want to play I guess - not to actually eat much from the plot.. You cant plant a bean and a cabbage together.. one needs lime and the other a frame to climb up!! Exaggerating a bit I know  :sunny:

I have a 'crop' of brassica seedlings. Definitely not sown them as they are in a very small area where I have a clematis planted. I have no idea where they came from, what they are or what to do with them, any ideas please?
Is there a seedling identity site?

Beneath the wild bird feeder? Could be oil seed rape or summat foreign !

Nowhere near the bird feeder, there's just no explanation for them.............. or is there? I washed the bird feeders out & there was a hole in the pipe so the seeds would be splashed in that bed. By jove I think you've got it. Thank you. Well I shan't be potting any of them up now :BangHead:.

Jannie - you can always eat the rye grass and rapoko seeds and feed the cabbages to the birds..

They all look exactly the same Gavin & with a small plot we need to know what's growing :BangHead:.
