JBA seed potatoes have a calculator on their page

Came across this site which gives yield rates per foot.

Beans 150 for 25 ft.
carrots 8000 for 100 feet.

This is a 'how long is a piece of string' type problem.  Good bean seeds with near 100 percent germination rate, germinated indoors and transplanted with protection at normal UK spacing (other countries space closer) and you need little more than 25 bean seeds for a 25ft row.  On the other hand if white seeded beans are sown directly into wet ground, almost all of the 150 are likely to rot.

Same with carrot seeds.

It depends on seed quality, cultivation plans and a whole lot of environmental factors including slugs unfortunately.

Galina I have to repack a heap of seeds "enough to plant a ten foot row" I am allright with some seeds as The Gardening Expert gives this info on the bigger seeds like beans etc but not on the smaller ones.

If it's a big pumpkin then I'd suggest , and a Dill's Atlantic Giant, probably  "one half"

Also massive difference if you direct sow and then thin as opposed to module sow and plant out...

This is a problem.  It so much depends on growing methods.  I would say you are looking at a quarter teaspoon for brassica, lettuce etc.  But if you are packing these seeds for inexperienced gardeners or where you know might be problems, double up.  At worst plants need thinning, which isn't the end of the world.

You are bound to overprovide and underprovide at the same time if these seeds go to a group of different gardeners
