The view was being put forward that councils should stop funding Allotments amongst other leisure activities ...

One thing I noticed missing in the piece is the statutory duty to provide a lot of these services.

I would guess every allotment site should become self managed where ever possible but one thing that never seems to be taken into account when we moan about council costs is that of the purchase / lease of the land.
