On www.gardenweb.com There's an article called Byron's World Famous Tea recipe for starting seeds.  Quite interesting, I think I'll give it a try . I expect some of you have already read this, if not have a look.

Why waste the first cup of tea?   My OH would drink it.  :coffee2:

Is the tea really necessary?  He says he gets 90% germination but using damp kitchen roll wetted with tap water then covered in cling film and I get over 95%.  I put mine on a north facing windowsill.  Some seeds need light, eg parsnips, parsley and celery.  And some need more warmth.  eg carrots.  I have found some benefit from a blast in the freezer first eg broad beans.  But never found much to be gained in the fridge.  I have used aloe vera in the water if the seeds start to show signs of mould.  Maybe the tea being acid also helps to prevent mould.
