I'm helping my son organise one of his fundraising events for the charity which sends young people off to work with underprivileged/poor children in various countries around the world.

We want to provide a complimentary glass of wine on the night (or orange juice) but worried about over/under buying. Does anyone know if a chain/supermarket will let you return unopened bottles? (so we could then make sure we have enough by overbuying by a couple of bottles).

I seem to think that Sainsbury's used to but that was a while ago.

go into the supermarkets and ask to speak to the manager, explain what you need and what its for and you never know they might even throw in a few extra bottles :icon_cheers: well done to your son for doing charity work

Have you tried Majestic?  I think they do loan glasses as well.

I worked for a charity sometime ago and we found Tesco had a helpful attitude but whether that runs to wine I do not know.  We were buying icecream and were not trying to return it.

I think Waitrose might, as I have often seen customers taking out boxes of glasses and wine.

Good luck with the fundraising.

I think most of those stores metioned only do a free glasses hire. But as most shops will refund on undamaged goods returned, just order an extra box. Keep the receipt and take it back after. Or as it is a fund raiser. why not auction or raffle the excess.

Tesco have a 28 day return policy, so says the back of a receipt. I am sure the others will be the same, just double check with the customer services before you buy.

Having asked that question I then read the back of the booking form for the venue. It says we need special permission to have alcohol. As we're not their usual sort of event ...it's a church still used for a church but also musical performances (classical mainly) they've already looked down their nose a bit at us at first they thought it was a loud band but it's one guy and his guitar playing acoustic blues. It was only when I convinced them he was fairly  famous with a good following and plays at the Cambridge folk festival did they agree. Anyway
the complementary wine idea was going to be too costly so we're going to go with tea/coffee.
