Who's growing them this year?...what do you think of them?

I've just had second picking from lottie for my tea and taste wise they are ok..nothing exceptional..but colour, wow..very nice.
At first the pods weren't very purple..but now that plants are starting to crop properly the colour on pods are coming deeper too and what is best, they don't fade a lot in cooking.  I was pleasantly surprised about this nonfading as I was expecting them to turn green..like purple beans do.
I find there is better varieties for munching raw..shiraz is bit tough and tasteless for that purpose.
Here is some that are just ready for draining and eating..all gone now..YUM.. ;D

Did a bit of grazing and found them unpalatable.  Have not bothered cooking them, will give them a second chance,

I've got some growing, although fairly late planted, hoping they will be ready before long. Though doesn't sound like they are that yummy :-\

pretty much the only peas I have this year - one year, I had 6 separate attempts at growing a decent crop of Hurst Greenshaft. Daughter loves these - I don't really as I have no idea what to do with them and my cookery remains in the brutally unimaginative 'northern' style so........anyway, they look rather lovely, grow vigorously and daughter says they are nice to eat in stir fries. Not attacked by every known pest either.

I sowed some Shiraz recently in the greenhouse and they came up very promptly and uniformly. They have been transplanted on to the allotment and I shall await developments. I also have a trial growing of a purple pea which is unnamed. The pods have formed and I may be tempted to try one but my intention is to grow them on for seed.
Thanks for the warning about cooking them for tenderness. I have Oregon Sugar Pod starting to pod up on the allotment but I netted it far too closely so I anticipate headaches disentangling it to pick the crop.

Update: I started picking them this week and are indeed a little tough for eating raw but are excellent cooked and keep their colour fairly well. They are very decorative and I will try to keep some seed back for next year.
(Once again, I netted them too close and the tendrils are caught up in the netting)
::)

I sowed some more a few weeks ago since they are supposed to be resistant to mildew. They have come up well, at the moment they are just ready to come out of their bottle cloche protection.
