I treated myself to one of these while shopping in Lidl the other day.

I was just wondering as the flowers are starting to drop now, How should I look after it if I want it to flower again in its pot next year?  ;D

Once it has died back into itself, take out the bulbs for the winter and plant again next spring in fresh bulb compost. Don't let the cat near it as the pollen brushes off on them and then they lick it off. The cat will only be fit for making a davy crockett hat then.

Never let lily bulbs dry out.

??? I store my specimen bulbs  dry each winter, never had a problem

Robert_Brenchley

How dry do you let them get? I never lift mine.

I usually just hang them in onion sacks, I do have a lot left in place in the garden, but the specimens that might be needed for a show are labeled and just left alone, perhaps with a dusting of sulphur to deter mould. When I buy new varieties they come packed in sawdust, so they are dry then.

Left in the ground is no problem but as my plants might end up in a show they have to be ultra clean. We once had to leave some at a mainland nursery to bring them into bloom, imagine my horror when we found lily beetle slime when they arrived at the show, Tin Shed,  a lovely lady of this parish had the job of cleaning them before the judges noticed.

If you remove the anthers with the pollen on them the flowers last longer and cats cannot get it on them.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Thanks for replies..
Think I will try storing them in an onion sack. As I would like to create this feature again next year. Just hang the bag in the shed? and when I plant again should I give them some tomato food?

I don 't have a cat anymore so no worries there. I did have a few of these bulbs in the garden but they have not come up this year :-(
