Having avidly digested the book "Taste of the Unexpected" I knew exactly what to do when I found a few seeds in a pack of Szechuan pepper (the bit we use as a spice is the dried seed pod, not the seed) .... they're now in a propagator.... fingers crossed....

It's brilliant, but you will end up with a wince-inducing shopping list once you've run it through the Otter Farnms pricelist.... it'snot that they're Sarah Raven expensive, but it will be a long list and they're the only place that does it all.... I can see a request for gift vuochers for X-mas presents happening.... my list is up at nearly 200 quid already....

I've got 6 szhechuan pepper plants growing in pots..now in their 3rd summer. They are very tough plants, eventually growing  into huge spiky shrubs. Only 'trouble' with them so far is that I have to wait quite few years to find out what 'sex' each plant it, as you will need male and female to get flowers and the seeds..peppercorns... ::)

Chris..just in case you didn't already know...those peppercorns need 3 months cold stratification.
