Hex

Congratulations!
We only started growing veg originally to do baby slops with after my health visitor got me to taste a jar of commercial stuff.  At 22 months he still loves his veg better than anything else but will try anything.  Apparently this comes down to the sheer variety we poked into him in the first months after weaning.   Small quantities of everything worked well for us as he would eat something for a couple of weeks then never again.  Number 2 son is six months old and hates all food and will only eat sweet stuff under protest.  Even sweet veg he hacks like he is being poisoned.  Carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, turnips have all gone down well with both boys as has brocoli, cauliflower and cucumber minus the pips for finger food.
I bought a cheap (£6 from Argos) mini processor to cope with the small quantities and it is still working despite heavy use.  So easy to get carried away with buying things for a new baby.
PM me if you want some links to discount baby goods sites.

I would agree with Hex, be adventurous with trying and continuing different foods as the baby grows. My son who is now 10 has always eaten the foods we have. He was having curry and chilli at 5-6 months, any pieces chopped up or broken up slightly in food processor. We have never had any great problems eating different foods, he eats all vegetables except leeks(on there  own) and mushrooms. He loves spicy foods in fact the spicy the better as far as he is concerned.

The one thing I regret is not giving more fresh fruit at a younger age. I was worried he might choke so tended to cook the fruit and then when I felt he was at an age  when he had more teeth he was more reluctant to eat fresh fruit.

I would agree with all the above, plus I'd say make sure that you put some food away in the freezer for you and your other half too for when your little one comes home.

When I was expecting Alexander, my mother-in-law recommended freezing veg for him later on while I was still pregnant!  Of course, at the time I couldn't think any further ahead than the birth, but once the baby arrives it's amazing how quickly the time goes.

All the best,

Sue
