these are all such good ideas, we are ex-directory as well as TPS, so I think that helps.
I love Bubbles26  method, I've tried to do that but cannot think of a tale quick enough!

We are with TPS but still get quite a few unsolicted calls. Tend to leave it the the answerphone to filter out calls although get fed up with the volume of "you were called today at....we do not have the caller's number"

My best response to the "We're carrying out a survey and you only have to answer one question".  Here I stay silent and they come back with    "Hello, are you still there?"   I reply "Yes, and that was your one question".     What a hoot.

I did ask one persistant person in their line of work, they must get some pretty abusive comments, when they open their hearts and say yes, I interupt saying, well think of the worst, and double it!   Not nice I know but then I'm not a nice person. .  .  .  .  Cheers,    Tony.

I had someone call me on my mobile about ppi. When he had done i asked him if he could help me with a problem on my allotment. Then he hung up on me. WHY. Well hedid ask if i had a problem.
