Swede

Have just been informed that the allotment soil is too light for swede,what can I add to make it more viable?

What type of soil do you have? In your area I would guess medium greensand loam?
If you keep them fed and watered you should be able to get acceptable swedes; not record breakers, but perfectly useable.
Chicken pellets or Growmore will help with the feed, and build up the organic matter in the soil over the years for moisture retention

Overhere they grow them on pure clay.i have tried it on my sandy soil it aint work.

Hi cornykev,it is freezing cold overhere day temp; -6,nighttemp;-22 that is very cold,cant remember it was so cold.On the other hand it is nice clear blue sky no wind but cold.Everybody is now on the icefloor skating.How is life going for you is it also so cold in the u.k.?

Snow still on the floor from the downpour Saturday evening, cold but the snow melting, sorry off subject Poolcue.   :D

Allotment has a spring underneath it,it has shingle about two spades down and apparently cauliflower is a pig to grow on it too.
