Hi All,

Finished putting back garden to bed and finaly have some time to get the veg bit and have a few questions mainly due to the fact that i have never really gardened over the winter. My allotments was shut in october and reopened in feb/march due to the location and high winds. So i would plant a few things and abandon them to good hope and see what developed.

B.spouts dont seam to have developed they look like cabbages on long stalks some have little nodules but nothing huge do i leave them or has the white fly attack damaged them and i have no chance of any sprouts.

Cabbage - I have some green savoy type which are growing now but no head yet when does it form? I have a few white cabbage growing but lots of slug damage on the outside of the head will they still be ok to leave growing?

Right have found 2 growbags in the back of the garden i had forgotten about one is sweet potatoes and one potatoes. Not sure what to do the potatoes have started to sprout and i have little potato leaves over the soil so there going to have to wait till they die back for harvesting next year. But the Sweet potatoes not sure what to do? If i leave them will they just rot (might have already) or would they grow??

Onions - left some in the ground as i wanted to just try pulling them up fresh to use but still have some left in the ground some have started to sprout and some look like they are ok. I have pulled up 2 that look ok and will cut them open to see what they are like inside? Should i leave them or pull them if the insides are ok??

Any help appreciated

The sprouts will swell up over winter... some varieties don't crop before Christmas... same with the savoys.
The white cabbage are best lifted... trimmed and cleaned up.
The potatoes can be lifted, de sprouted and eaten. The sweet potatoes can be lifted and eaten if not yet frosted..
Onions can be eaten... use the sprouty bits like chives!
