Hi,
I'd like to plant some hazel down at the allotment for future use as bean poles, how easy is it to grow and where could i get some from?

Thanks in advance  ???

Very easy esp if you have heavy soil!! I googled for a supplier and brought cut pieces which took root. Very cheap!

The jays are always planting them for me, along with lots of acorns.

Garden centres usually have bare root hazel for hedging. Plant it and imediately cut back to twelve inches tall to give a better root to shoot ratio. If you cant find it look in gardening magazines and it will be under hedging. Thellatin name is Coryllus Avellana in case they only have latin names.

I have to dig out seedlings - they come up constantly. I am saving 2 on my boundary for bean poles and for weaving fences with for raspberries. It's fantastic how quickly they grow.
