This year for the first time ever I have had a bumper crop of Aubergine's, On cleaning out my greenhouse today found the plastic label which came with the one plant I bought. It is F1 Scorpio and had been grafted, I remembered I rescued it from casualty corner at my local garden centre for 1.99 It should have been 7.99. It has been really prolific with plenty of good sized fruit. I have just looked up grafted aubergine and found that Dobie's are selling 3 for 9.99, I wouldn't pay that much but it tells you all about them and how hardy they are.

Do you think that the grafting made a difference?
no body else on here- me included seems to have had a good season with them?

How did you keep the pests off it - I gave up on aubergine because of the greenfly and white fly.

I do think it was because it was grafted, I am not very technical but it states that the root stock is particularly hardy, and these plants do well out of doors in milder districts. It also says on Dobie's web site that they are unsuitable for growbags as the roots are very large. I grew it in the same greenhouse as tomatoes and my husband is meticulous and can spot a pest at fifty yards. I did spray it with a whitefly/greenfly spray, but I will add that the label on the spray stated that veg could be eaten on the same day. This seemed to do the trick and a couple of sprays with soapy water.

OH has just reminded me that he regularly rubbed off the greenfly and small caterpillars and fed them with tomato feed every time he did his precious tomato's.
