Anyone overwintered aubergines?

Just what the question says, really! :)

I have 2 applegreen plants which have produced a couple of fruits over the summer and now wonder whether I need to cut them back to keep them over winter, like chilies.

I do realise that there are no guarantees, of course.

Tried and failed here.  Peppers are more successful.  Which does not mean that you won't have more success. 

In theory aubergine is a shortlived perennial, so it should be possible to overwinter them.  Good luck.

I tried this one year, kept them in my conservatory...they survived and put out some new growth, but didn't do well subsequently, and served as an overwintering place for greenfly which then overwhelmed everything else...I didn't bother again with them being so easy from seed.

I had already looked for this on various gardening forums, but the response often seems to be that they are so easy to raise from seed that it's not worth it - but this this is typically from people in the southern US, so I don't take this quite as for granted.

Did either of you cut back the plants at all?

Tried both ways, the straggly and the cut back behaved the same. Reading round this year, it seems that many people have had trouble with aubergines, I must have just done things at the right time because I had a good crop again, they and peppers were early and prolific. Watch me fail next year....
