Apols if this is in the wrong section or has been asked before.

My neighbour has a year old white grape (type unknown) that is growing really well on a
trellis attached to her greenhouse.
Anyway, she has said I can pinch a cutting/branch from it in order to grow a vine on our adjacent plot.

Now then,is there any rules to follow...............

ie......

Am I attempting this at the wrong time of year...?

What type of cutting do you take, and how much.?

Do you plant the cutting directly into the home position in compost.?

Do you pot the cutting in compost.?

Her vine has already fruited really well after just 1 year, its mass is already about 8 feet tall by 8 feet wide ..the thing is I didnt know if a newly brought plant might be the better option.

Thanks for any tips.

Usually you would take cutting earlier on summer....it is getting a bit late for soft green cuttings. But there is nothing lost if you try. You cut take few about 4-6" long cuttings from new growth/tips cutting just underneath the leaf joint.
Dip it into rooting powder and put all cuttings into one large pot where you have just ordinary multipurpose compost mixed with some grit. Leave only the couple of small leaves on top of cutting or if large, reduce the size half by slicing across the leaf. Keep the cuttings in warm place, away from straight sun light and keep the compost moist and fingers crossed they have a chance to root before winter.
If they do..don't tempt to separate them until next spring, then pot on individually into compost/loam mix (or John Innes no2 compost) and grow on.
Other option is..if you neighbour's plant has branch that she could lay down on soil and put brick over..eventually it will root and then dug up and potted.
If you don't have any luck now..grapes grow so quickly and lush that you just have to have another try next summer..around May perhaps.

Many thanks Goodlife, just about everything we need to help us decide which option to attempt.

I favour your cuttings explanation, but I know Jude has clocked a new white grape  in our local garden centre
but our neighbours is a red grape, so, I guess if room and sensible trimming allows, we may end up trying both
side by side.....itll be good fun and an enjoyable learning experience on a new fruit.

Cheers for the heads up..!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;)
