Help with a book title/author

Quite a few months ago I read an interview with a woman who'd written a book about living and working 'beneath the stairs' - a real upstairs downstairs maid.  It was being released has a hardback and I thought I'd wait for it in paperback but ... I've forgotten both the book title and the woman's name! :-[ ::) Was just wondering if anybody happened to know of it and can tell me the title?  I know it's a long shot but members on A4A can usually answer anything!

Betula, did you like it/find it an interesting read?

Grrr, thought I could get it as an audio book to listen to on the way home from work but it's only available on the kindle or as a book!  Not that much of a problem as I love to read but sometimes with standing room only, it's easier to stick in earphones than to hold a book, lol.

My mum actually did that job in the Thirties from when she was 13, but she never made it sound glamourous like that! She worked for a doctor in Hartlepool who was a good employer it would seem but she did spend most of her time on her hands and knees with a scrubbing brush or cleaning many-paned Vistorian windows on a ladder. 

Not sure about the book's authenticity! But probably still a good read!

Margaret had it hard,what makes it a good read is her sense of humour.

No way does she glamorise it,quite the opposite,saw an interview with her
once and she was very down to earth.Is she still around?She must be getting on.

I use to have the book.   I remember her being on Womens Hour.   Very funny.   Always mentioned the support from her husband when she became famous.
