Green manure & sweet corn

I was planning on green manuring the patch where my sweet corn are, once I have harvested the crops (if the cobs ever get big enough!), but it looks like I will be waiting quite a few more weeks for the corn to ripen.

I was planning to use either mustard, forage pea or italian rye (or a combination of the three), can I sow the green manure seeds in amongst the corn now so that it has a chance to get going before the cooler weather kicks in or should I just wait until I've harvested the corn?

Thanks.

Yes you can sow in between..and it is actually really good idea..as the corn is finished you can then chop it with secateurs into small pieces amongst the green manure in spring turn it all over and it will all turn into valuable 'good stuff'.. ;)

I am sowing grazing rye and vetch on all empty ground, which you can sow up until mid Oct.

I tried growing trefoil as an undersown green manure between the corn, I should have prepared the ground for the seed and then cleared any weeds that germinated a couple of times before i sowed the trefoil, but other than that it was a great success, the sweet corn seems to rearly like it, but that is something for next year.

If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

I sowed Mustard a couple of years ago on part of the lotty which I think is good making a change from Muck, last year I did have a load of manure delivered which I dug and rotovated in, for next year I'm not going to put anything on because I think the benefit will come next year although I will fork the whole allotment this back end and leave it all winter and rotovate about March time, :)

Last year the field beans I sowed early were killed by the frost but the ones I sowed later were fine.
So if you want to sow something later I would suggest trying field beans.

That's great. I didn't know if I was just getting carried away with wanting to plant stuff. I'm off down to the lottie this evening anyway so I'll get started then.
