To go back..We took on 2 small new plots this year in a very bad state, old wood beds falling down, overgrown etc etc, it is also in a wetttish area and we had rains for months ,so we decided to wait till the ground was dry which was June, then start building foot high raised beds and be ready for next year. OK all 18 raised beds are finished.

Filling them was a problem as we are not allowed to bring soil in ans were reluctant to take from the paths because of the low areas.. so my beds are filled wit

some path soil..not a lot
peat..which is very plentiful in BC and not under threat
a very little sand
Lots of 2 year old manure which we have unlimited supply of.
All this went on a base of straw.

John is going to Mantis this lot in the next few days.. we would be adding lime at this time.

Given the soil blends and the time of year..any ideas what may grow now, we have no transplants ready, although we still may be able to buy a few.

We could top up with purchased compost but it has a lot of peat in it anyway here.

Pheww..that sounded like lot of work. Have you got any spinach sown yet? Kohl rabi and turnips would make it before winter too..and as you are going to add lime that would be ideal..chinese cabbage?
How about some blueberry bushes?...no lime of course...those would love the moisture...and they could be underplanted with granberries or lingon berries.

No fruit or bushes we are planning a seperate plot for the, The water should nit be a problem now, we have 6 inches of mulchon paths and the boxes are held quite high.

It is ther soil combination I am cincerned about..it would grow great squash lil but not over the winter//late peas maybe?
