Potatoes not flowering

I have grown potatoes succesfully in the past but this year i seem to be having a real issue.

None of them are flowering. An old timer on the plot told me to just leave alone until they flowered but some of them are meant to have been harvested by now as they were first earlys. Is this really the case? Do potatoes have to flower before I can harvest? Should I just dig them up and see what is there and put it down as a bad year if they are no good?

Thanks

Kate

Don't firkle about, just dig one up and see what's under there.

When did you plant them and have they been watered?

I dug and i have loads of potatoes. My friend who was meant to be watering allotment for me when i went away for 2 weeks admitted she only went once. Maybe it was down to a lack of water coupled with the fact that apparently one lot of them do not flower.
Thanks all.

My Lady Christl's planted early April I think....not a flower between them - may go and have a little dig.

Charlottes have been flowering for about 4 weeks now and they were planted slightly later.

Don't worry about the flowers - Lady Christl should be well ready by now as a first early and could do with eating.
