cider vinegar

Our local poultry food supplier sells cider vinegar at £6.99 for poultry (1 litre), local supermarket £1.98 for a litre. is there much difference in them apart from the price?

Other than supermarket one being more 'polished' version and propably brewed into human consumption..no...or the 'animal' use vinegar is more of the 'bottom of the barrell' stuff.
Purpose of the vinergar in the water is to acidify the 'tummy' and by doing so creating more frendlier environment to the 'tummy fauna' = good bacteria.
I've used both sort and haven't noticed any difference with results.... ;)

I did wonder about that myself... thanks Goodlife for answering the question. I was sprinkling the last of the red mite killer around the hen house and casually looked on the ingredients it was just DE. I think the pot cost me about 6.99 and I bought a big box of the stuff on ebay for aroung the same price. I Shall look at the labels a lot more in the future to try and save a bit of cash.

Yes..I've bought some of that DE from Ebay and sooo much cheaper than the 'brand' ones.
What was new to me with DE..is that you can add it into chickens feed and it will 'act' as a supplement providing some essential minerals and be wormer as well.
They don't tell that in 'branded' bottles.. ;)
In fact...DE has so many uses that I start new tread about it and let everybody know about it.. ;)

Hi, I use cider vinegar for my ex battery hens as a tonic and I was told that it was different from the human stuff. It does look a darker colour than my cider vinegar but would be a lot easier to get and cheaper if I could just use the normal cider vinegar. By the way what is DE? busy_lizzie
