Dug up some spuds today and noticed that on the outside of them were strange white spots which wiped off easily, but looked like some sort of fungus. The plants themselves are healthy so doesnt sound like blight, and they seem ok, but just  a little concerned....any ideas?

I'm sure I've seen that before too, on Duke of York particularly I think.  No idea what it was, and it didn't seem to do any harm either.

It certainly doesn't sound like blight!

I have also noticed this in the past. I have a vague idea that it is lenticels, or anyway something the tuber needs and does it no harm.

I always have a few of my first earlys with this, did look it up once, decided it was swollen lenticels caused them geting too wet in my heavy soil.

Get it all the time... being on heavy clay... It's just more noticeable on red skinned spuds...  :)

They are Lenticels which is basically the pores of the potato that allows the exchange of gasses, they usually occur in moist or clay conditions.
They have no affect on the flavor of the potato and wash or rub off
