Greenhouse protection

Does anyone have any practicle idea how to reduce the amount of glass lost during stormy weather.   We had gusts of wind on Monday 25th May 2011 of in excess of 85 MPH which has again wrecked my greenhouse.       Replacing glass costs a lot and takes time never mind the plants lost.     The glass is held in using the "spring clip" method.      If putty is the answer where can I purchase enough to fill in the entire house?

Just fixed the damage from winter and then we were hit by an unseasonal storm in late May.     I live in West Lothian, Central Scotland.

We have had this problem and it is so upsetting.

we stood one day watching what happens and as the wind blows the greenhouse it twists so that it forms a parallelogram, only slightly but enough for the panes of glass to slip.

Putting extra clips in helps but is not enough, I would not use putty ever.

We have put lots of extra cross braces in, sometimes using bits of salvaged aluminium from greenhouses but we have bought new thicker angled aluminium also.

We are lucky in being in the same town as Two Wests and they also sell a cropped head bolt which means this can be done without dismantling the greenhouse. Two wests also do internet sales- there may be other firms but we find them great and they are 5 mins in the car from us (I'm not a share holder just trying to help by the way!)

Hope the pics show what I mean.

As well as the extra bracing to reduce flexing try to make sure that the panes you replace are with toughened glass I guess... unless you want to go the polycarb route...

Thanks for the input the braces do sound a good idea

You can get glazing sealant, in a tube, like bathroom sealant. Its  clear gel that glues glass into wood frames like its been nailed there, but you can slide a sharp knife between the glass sand  frame to reglaze it. I would imagine it would work in a aluminium frame with glass.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.
