I bought a grape vine from Aldi last year but after the winter it was looking very sad indeed, everything above ground level is a crisp as a biscuit so I thought it had thrown in the towel.  But no it has sprouted from under the ground.  Nice strong little shoot too.

My greenhouse grape has only just started with new green buds.  Outside all still looks dead.  Come May there will be definite signs of life.  Yes grapes are tough enough to survive cold winters.  Both European types (if grown from cuttings) and even more so American types (which is what they use as rootstock).
