Hello all.  My OH has just bought me a blueberry plant for the allotment.  Any advice on growing tips, etc, and do i need another plant to pollenate?  Thanks all.

Blueberries like acidic soil, so if yours isn't, you may need to buy some ericaceous compost. Never add lime.
They like it moist. I mulch with horse muck and kitchen compost every spring. They really don't like dry conditions.
You will get more fruit if it has a companion, although I believe they fruit without one, there're five here, and I get lots of fruit now but they took about 3 years to get a decent crop from.
You will need to erect a net over them when they do start fruiting, as the birds love them. The bushes I have are about  3 ft diameter and about 4 ft high, and look as if they may get larger so allow for that sort of space.

Brill, thanks for the advice JennyM - I will go get a another plant this wk just to be sure!    I've got some netting for when the fruit appear. We live in Surrey/London border, i think the soil is limey here so i'll get some e.compost.

Ceres, Thanks for moving my post - i did try myself but couldn't figure it out - not particularly good with modern technology, always asking for help!

Also only use ericaceous fertiliser.
