Bought a couple of Tulameen raspberries from Lidl.  All I got was two bits of stalk with a bit of root attached, no idea even which way up they should go.

I think they are having a laugh.  Total rip off.

Take them back. Politely but firmly ask for your money back. No shop can sell goods that aren't for for purpose, it's illegal and they are in effect conning you.
One word of caution with Lidl - the store manager may insist on a receipt. If the goods aren't fit for purpose, you don't need one. You may need some form of proof of purchase. Be prepared to stand your ground and make a polite fuss.

I've never had a problem taking things back to lidl.  Even a box of strawberries that had a mouldy one in, and a bra I'd tried on.   ;D

I wouldn't be too worried about them just yet, I bought some from Lidl a month or so ago and they were in exactly the same condition, bare root with just a single 'trunk', less than a foot long in total.  I planted them and they have started sprouting leaves nicely.  It's too early to tell if they will crop well but it's looking promising.

I bought my first ever raspberries from Lidl a couple of years ago, and they were exactly the same. I was a tad surprised, looked in a few other boxes on the shelf but they all looked the same so I assumed they must know what they were doing and bought some. When I got home I just picked an end at random and stuffed them into a pot....

They soon took off and grew, now we've got a lovely crop each year so don't panic, and if you do take them back don't be surprised if all the ones the offer as replacements are the same... :)

I have had them before from Lidl, but in the past I got a bit of stem and a bit of root.  This time all there was a couple of bits of root, and as I said no way to determining which way up to put it.

I have planted them and I hope for success but I will not hold my breathe.   I have planted my bits horizontal with the hope that it can decide which way is up.
