I am not filling up the motor today. If they are going to waste my tax on £300,000 missiles, I shall wait until tomorrow, that will be one less they can fire off.

How many allotments could that provide, how may nurses could it pay, discusting waste of money and none of our bloody business anyway.

..and Cameron was slaughtering Blair going to Irak.. ::) So...what is the different this time..other than different country.
Um..suppose they are more open about the real issue.. ::)

I agree entirely, Goodlife.

My son has always been against the Iraq invasion so I was quite surprised when he was in favour of the Libyan invasion.  As far as I can see, Saddam Hussein was killing many of his own people too; in particular the Kurds.

The only difference between this invasion and Iraq is that this one is supposedly "legal".

I sat on the fence concerning the Iraq war and find myself doing the same with Libya.  There are points for and against going in to help the Libyan people but why is it always us British that have to lead the way?  It is no more our business than any other country.

We are in a financial crisis and I also agree with ACE that there are so many other things that the money could have been spent on.

A space? I need more plants......more plants? I need some space!!!!

Ragdoll Lady

Oil has everything to do with it and I am fed up with the governments stating that they are trying to stop whichever dictator trying to kill his own people. How stupid do the ones in power think we really are.?! We were constulted in if we want our taxes spent this way? or course we were not. If only we had kept our noses out of Iraq and Afganistan how many brave boys would still be with their families and how much more money would be in the country. It makes me so angry.

Alimo

I hear you Ragdoll - you're not alone in your anger.

After Iraq you'd have thought they'd have learned a lesson about these things and let someone else lead the way if they really believed it a just cause.

I wonder to what extent, if any, the Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi (Lockerbie bomber) release  has played a part?  US don't want to be diving in, gung-ho, to another expensive potentially asymmetric war (these damned foreigners, never playing by the rules), so could they have used Britain's embarrassment over the release to get us to play a leading part?

But there again it's a conservative government by name as well as nature this time, so expect more flexing of our non-existent muscles on the world stage.

<rant over - only came here to find out what kind of sproute to plant>

On the radio today they mentioned the costs. To have a fighter jet in the air it costs £40,000 per hour and the missiles are a mere £800,000 each. Just work out the cost of just one jet that left its base in norfork flew out to iran and back again? I Wonder how many schools could have been rebuilt with the costs so far? They say we all need to cut back they aint got a clue.

But on the other hand most of the missiles there firing had been bought years before and have to be used up or pay decommissioning costs, the current conflict might stop them closing down the bases (thus wasting more money) and putting more people out of work.

And once the new government is in power they will be back to restock from the US and UK so more jobs.

Occurring to the radio 2 weeks ago the last delivery of weapons were sent just before christmas...

gaz2000

can understand that he needs to go,with his track record

but wasnt this happening anyway? with the rebels?

if the arab league was so worried about civillians ect then why didnt they deal with it? not let the un handle it,then complain about what the un has done?

seems like a setup to me,let the west deal with it then shy away from it..

but we shouldnt be there, just like iraq, and afganistan, and kosovo.
