What size plot?

 :o NUTS!!! I've forgotten all that..somebody in allotment gave me 3 hazels last autumn..I FORGOT ALL ABOUT EM :-X..I'll have to remember to check how they are..still in pots.. :-[
Now where in earth I'm going to put them :-X ??? ;D

I don't think I've even ever seen an almond tree.  The people round the corner have a walnut tree and I had no idea they were so big - I'd only ever seen hazelnut trees before.

Well, funnily enough I am Welsh living in England and I already have a big Welsh flag ready for the allotment  ;D

In our site we've got Finn (me), Polish, German, Swiss and Irish lottie holders..we could start our own United Nations here..or should it be Internal EU.
If we all would declare UDI..'Queenie' would suddenly have lot less to rule ;)

Ummm... it's not 40 poles.... 10 poles is a sixth of an acre..... so it's nearer 15 poles.... a lot for a beginner but if it's already been dug then a lot easier.....  My dad fed a family of 5 pretty much all the veg we ate with a healthy surplus to sell off 20 poles when I was younger..... and that was 1/3 of an acre.....

10 poles is a sixteenth of an acre.  160 poles to the acre, 1/4 acre == 40 poles.

Well, we've gone for the 1/2 size which is 10m x 50m - no idea how many poles that is.
I figure with a shed, waterbutts, some grass, a couple of fruit trees I'll soon fill it up

I have 20 poles, or 1/8 acre. I quite fancy declaring UDI. I could hang out my own flag, install a customs post, and refuse to pay rent!

Are you sure that your plot is 10m by 50m which I make 500sq metres.

That is huge it is the size of two full allotments of 10 poles or 250 sq meters.  I hope someone will correct me if I have got this wrong,

Yes, that's right.  The full plots are 1/4 acre so I have half that.  It's not council owned which might explain the non standard size.  Lots of people have fruit trees, chickens and all sorts on them as there's plenty of space.

Good luck Cobnut. I have plot size envy ;) ;D. Our half plot is 56' x 18', see why I'm envious. ;D Lidls have fruit trees in ATM & they seem to be a good size.

I think you will find you have more than enough space, it was said that a 10 pole plot should feed a family so with twice that you should be very well fed. 

I hope you enjoy your plot.   

Actually Grannyjanny your size is only about 1/3 of a standard allotment (3.7 poles. )
