Help, we are facing the prospect of ouir allotment being built on, and that allotment owners have been given notice, whereby planning permission has also been submitted recently.

Any advice you can give

I'm really sorry to hear that smg.  Your first step should be to find out if your site is on Green Land.  If Green Land your local council can't do it.  But think it might not be green land, so you should find out from the local council under what terms the land was made over to allotments in the first place.

Where I am, we had the same trouble, but I fought the council and won.  So, all is not lost but you need to take action fast, or the houses will be up before you know it.

Have you contacted the NSALG (on http://www.nsalg.demon.co.uk/)?

And Richard Wiltshire on QED (http://www.btinternet.com/~richard.wiltshire/allot1.htm) is a mine of very useful information.

I've not been in this position - all I know is that there are specific protections based on how the allotment was set up and defined.  But if I were, one of my first approaches would be to neighbours of the site; would they miss it?  (Here in Seacroft, they would.)  Do they want the site replaced by whatever is planned?  Get them on your side, and make a lot of noise.
