My wife has found recipes for Banana Shallots. Any ideas as to what these are and where they can be obtained ?

As far as I am aware banana shallots are just the long shaped ones (Longor, etc.) as opposed to normal round ones, the long ones are supposed to taste better

Hi Peter, The only place I know where to get Banana shallots is in London. Long Red Florenc is the name. :"CityHerbs"- Johnlawless

Hi Lady Cosmos, the Long Red Florence you refer to is a variety of onion from Italy, seeds are also available from Seeds of Italy

Thanks everyone for the advice so far. I have found some shallots labelled as banana from the German grocery store LIDL. They are about 3 inches lond and golden. I don't know what variety they are, just labelled "Échalion" which I assume means Shallot or scallion. Anyway I'm going to plant them and see what happens.

Hi Peter,
I looked it up on google it says they are shallots so you will be ok planting them..
If they had been onions they would have run to seed ..
cheers Jim...
