hey sorry for not posting recently.
But just finished 1 of the 2 vegetable gardening projects I  have been working on.
the one I am really excited about is the garden book have been writing is finally  finished.
the good news it when goes on sale hope people really dig it. The  Bad news now it will not be on sale till November 2011.  the Other issue with it is book is currently is 500 pages.
But the good news is the book covers the subject of companion planting, interval planting and  succession planting a manner that goes way beyond and all previous attempts.
Part of the research I did for book involved going though over 600 books written   from 1800 to current and see how they treated the subject. Besides discovering how  badly the subjects where covered in various tomes. I discovered so many lost bits and bobs of lost gardening info on the subjects. It would make well healed gardener cry.
As for testing the info i farmed that out to several organic farmers who I am friends with.
sorry but I can not give any sneak peeks of what is in the book.  Except one poster on this board did get a hint of some lost info that will be in the book.

the other project will be finished in march 31 2011.

But now I have new project to work on that dwarfs the other 2.
I thought you guys might want help but if not that is ok with me.
the project is this the local farmers market has decided to open 1 month earlier in the 2011
season. This means the farmers have one month earlier to start providing vegetable plants, fresh vegetables, and wintered stored products at there tables. the rules of market state that 95% of produce has to be produced by the farmers themselves and can not bought then sold. since market is held on Sunday that mean the grower have four more weeks to fill there tables with produce.  Since the decision to add extra month
was made last week storing enough winter stored products is out since the lead time is not there. As for vegetable plant and fresh vegetable for the four extra weeks at
market, decisions  have to be made in the next month.  Since seed needs to be bought and other supplies need to be ordered.  the local last frost date  is 6 weeks after market opens.
So lets hear your ideas of what you would like to see in way of fresh vegetable and you techniques for getting get vegetable ready for table earlier in season then normal.
I have whole list already of things I will suggesting to the farmers I do consulting for.
But would like to hear what you have say without knowledge of what is already on the list.
So if you are up to it, since there is little else to do in slow garden season. Let the suggestions roll.

Living salad trays is something that could be easily achieved under covers..there is so many exciting tasting and looking leaves available that are not available in shops and public have not seen those unless into 'grow you own'.
Fancy squashes..but those would have been grown and harvested this year..so too late for now..maybe for next year?
Mangetout can be achieved in tunnels for early crops..again..public might fancy some other colour than green...golden sweet, with 'yellow' pods?
Radishes..buches of mixed coloured/shaped ones..early season is good for them too..
'Lunch box' carrots..like Parmex..kids love it and just right size..can be ready for market from early sowing...but might need to be done under cover for the first crop.
I would think..that there is need/demand for some novelty crops and farmers markets are just ideal for that..out of standard colours and shapes..
How about garlic greens..all left over gloves or bulbils sown now will start growth in spring and gathered like chives, bundled up...will taste great and offer something alternative to bublic....something to think about for start with..

goodlife pea Idea is good.
the other ideas have been done for several years multicolour radish, garlic , and salad leaf trays.
Could be more specific when comes to novelty crops.
