Yes I still watch it!   ;D

Tonight's show was very informative but I think it might have put some people off showing.

Your local show will expect you to have read the schedule and put the correct number of vegetables in or correct weight etc.

But it's also about "having a go"....................I know I've banged on about it before.

Yes, there's the element of nerves along the way but if they don't come up to scratch, don't put them in. You can enter as many classes as you like, and take your card away if you have any doubt on the day.

...........and local shows aren't always just for the vegetables - fruit, knitting, baking, photographic art, preserves, floral arrangements, to name just a few, also feature.

Have a think about next year, just visit your local one if you're not sure and I'll bet you'll say to yourself...............I've got one of those in the garden or plot looking as good or even better  ;)

I started in 2008 after someone said at the plot, "you ought to show that".

I grow to eat and not to show, they all end up in the pot, freezer or jar!

I found the show very interesting.

I was particularly interested in how the carrots were grown in the large metal bins.  I wouldn't want to grow large vegetables for showing but the programme gave me some food for thought as to how I might be more successful with my attempts, especially in containers.

The year before last I tried to grow carrots in a container but they were only about 1 inch long and very thin, in fact, no use for anything.  I now realise that I didn't have sand or the right compost and food for them.  Next year I will give it another go, following the instructions on the programme but making more holes than they had.  Hopefully I will get a good crop.
