I signed up with Tiscali which is now Talk Talk, I have not been able to send or receive e mail for the past 5 days.

I rang the help line yesterday and after keeping me on line for over 15 minutes going through my account details etc. They told me there was a fault with some areas and it could take up to the 16th September before it is fixed, however, I went into my mail  this evening and they have sent me an e mail advertising some product. I have had no other messages and I know I should have had quite a few. I even sent myself a message and this also has not been received. It is such a lot of trouble to change ones server but I am seriously thinking of doing this when my contract comes to an end.
Hi I'm from Heywood, Lancashire

Chrispy

I just switched from talk talk internet.
After I left, their finance department kept ringing me up saying I owed them £12.98 for a month I have not paid for claiming I paid in arrears.
They would not let me log into my account to check the details so I refused to pay until they proved I owed them the money.
After 2 months the eventually sent me a statement, but the statement was not clear and proved nothing, but now said I owed them £3.77
The next day I received a letter stating they are issuing me a refund of 43p.
I am sure they owe me more than that, but their harassment was giving me sleepless nights so I will settle for the 43p.

Another person I know who has left them a few months ago when they moved has also told me they still taking the monthly payments.

I would not advise anybody to use them.
If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

we have been with them for nearly four years and are happy on the whole, best bit is free landline calls to anywhere in the world, was more useful when we both travelled full time for work mind you...i could call OH at his hotel for free even when in oz,japan etc,and vice versa

We signed up with TalkTalk 18mths ago and have just renewed,'probably tempting fate but the odd problem we've had has been sorted out. They have a splendid forum which I've used instead of phoning-a dreadful lengthy experience.I've a neighbour who is with B.T. who seems to be paying approx £10 a month more than us for a similar service.

I used Tiscali for several years but since they were taken over by TT I have not been very happy with them and decided to move. I have now moved to Plus.net, a few pence cheaper but at least I get evening calls for free extra, I could also have VOIP if I wanted. They keep me well informed about BB problems (BT line failures etc.). Bandwidth problems are about the same as Tiscali but that is due to distance from the exchange. When I call them, the operators are in Sheffield with a Yorkshire dialect.

no problems with talktalk. like having free calls anytime not just evening like other firms

From my experience of talk talk.
It is absolutely fine and dandy right up to the point when it goes wrong.  Then they can be very hard to deal with.
Great deal and all that but support is fairly crap when you need it..
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

Queenbee, I had just the same problem when Tiscali switched to TalkTalk. But it's easy to sort. Go to the Advanced bit of the Accounts menu. (I use Mail on an Apple Mac, so the actual names will all be different, but it's there somewhere.) You need to change the authentification setting to Password. Then it works.

TalkTalk did send me an e-mail telling me what to do if I used Thunderbird. (Which I don't, but my wife does on her PC.)

When this first happened, I complained via their web-site and immediately received a "help" e-mail which pointed me in the right direction. A few days later a nice man phoned from India to check whether I was still having problems. (Which I wasn't by then.)

We're with TalkTalk for calls - but not the phone line - and they seem much cheaper than other firms. And when my wife had problems with her mobile account, the staff at our local shop were brilliant and spent ages sorting it out for her.

All I want from them now is a big discount for having broadband, a landline and two mobiles with them!!

My son had terrible problems with Talk Talk - he took over the phone line and number of the people moving out (having signed all the contract papers previously with the outgoing person for Talk Talk);  after a month the line was cut off.  He spent almost three hours trying on the phone trying to sort things out, promises to call him back but they didn't, never able to speak to the same person again, also wrote to them and emailed but got no replies.  It seems the problem was the person who'd moved out hadn't paid his last bill - and he refused to do so, saying 'they don't know where I am so tough'.  My son offered to pay this account so he could get his phone back (he'd advised this phone number to all friends, organisations etc with his new address and he considered it would be cheaper than having to contact everyone again) but Talk Talk wouldn't accept this.  Tried to take this up with Offcom but they said as it was an unpaid account so they couldn't get involved.  In the end, in order to get a phone line connected, he signed up with BT

Moved from BT (after 65 years) to Talk Talk last September.  Kept the same number and have had no problems at all. I pay £4 per month for all UK calls and £2 per month for all international calls.  £6.99 for BB. Great savings.  Was previously on dial up with Orange (£14.99 per month) and still awaiting refund - some hope!

I don't know what deal you got, but they wanted £5 per month more for anytime but as I was using a Swiss company for my weekday and evening calls, whose charges worked out at around £5 for two months, I didn't take that up. The Tiscali contract only included weekend calls not evenings.

I wouldn't give them the time of day.

I had trouble with them over a three month period when they still never connected my broadband.

Without going into detail, I told them to take me to court.  It was only at the last minute that they give in and squashed the demand for £123 because I went with BT.
They are the worst company I have ever known.

I too have boycotted TT, and recommend everyone else does too.  I was happily with Tiscali.  TT took over Tiscali, but at no point contacted me to say my internet bill would DOUBLE.  I was in long communications with them.  I contacted the Office of fair trading and other organisatons, all who said TT were in the wrong and for me to pursue it with Offcom... At which point TT "gave way" and let me out of the contract I had never signed with them!!!  I am now with Plus net, the monthly charge is far less and my internet speed almost doubled to a speed I had never had before...

TT customer service is non existent...

Talk Talk's rubbish, but I think you got that by now  ;)

I can barely, if ever connect to the internet at night.

Wasn't my choice, not my computer I use....

As with lavenderlux we moved into a house that the previous people were with TT we wanted to keep out BT account and when we tried to get TT to free the line they said they could not as the previous people had three weeks to run on their account and they could not disconnect until the time was up, I have two other Friends that had problems with TT and dropped them like a hot brick as soon as the contract was up.

That's my experience, I was getting 2.2Mbps, after moving to PlusNet it went up to 5.5Mbps.
The any time phone tariff is not the cheapest for me, my Swiss company that I use (weekdays) charges me 5p connection and no charge for time, which costs me about £5 for two months (and I have two colleagues would compete with politicians for talking).
