Hi,
I planted my last batch of the seasons carrots + raddishes.
All doing fine.
They came up to show their true leaves.
2 rows of each.
Couple of days later they were gone !!!!
No visible signs of snails  slugs or pidgeon poop  - where did they go ?????
The spring oins that were sown at the same time are doing fine ???

Thoughts please

The same thing happened to my latest sowing of lettuce and rocket - I reckon the culprits were woodlice.

But I always assume it's slugs and snails, and I never see any slime from them outdoors on soil. I wonder if they just wander along, pass a nice carrot frond and have a munch - goodbye carrot.

I don't really know what woodlice get up to. It could be them. They always look like they've been up to no good when you disturb them.

All sorts of "aminals" will take a shine to a few tender shoots. I use a "cloche-shaped" piece of stiff plastic netting (lightweight fencing material) over a lot of stuff, mostly as an insurance rather than as a specific deterrant, but have "lost" whole rows of seedlings when I didn't have enough netting to go around, with and without any traces of slug/snail presence, so I'd blame birds or rodents if there's no trace of anything else ... I can't see woodlice being a problem , but maybe yours are bigger than mine  ;)

I do know a couple of neighbourhood cats with a taste for onions, believe it or not. I've only ever caught them nibbling the end of mature leaves, but I imagine they'd make short work of a row of seedlings if they fancied them !
