Our youngest son is a Special Ed teacher but has been interested in acting since a teen and recently got a fairly large role in a "made for charity" film which is a sequel to the tv series called "Firefly". It ran for a season and was dropped by the studio but by then had a cult following in various countries who were eager for another film.

We'd never watched it and  confess we aren't sci-fi fans but are making an exception today and will be following with great interest
"Browncoats Redemption Film DragonCon Premiere" at Ustream.TV to see youngest son acting for the first time.

He and his wife were both involved, she did some editing, and they also volunteered with others in building the set. Apparently the team of actors and helpers were highly enjoyable which made the filming great fun. He was sad to see it end and is back to teaching (regular paycheck- YES!), but they're down in Atlanta for the premiere this weekend.

Interesting what kids get into at different ages.

That is amazing!  I love Firefly!  It was cancelled abruptly mid season so lots of loose ends for them to pick up though there is a sequel standalone movie called Serenity (which had a much darker  tone IMO).

(Note to self: get out more)

There is loads of fan created Star Trek stuff out there.  And I mean LOADS.  It is strange that the studios can be very litigious about copyright but leave alone so much provided it is done on a not for profit basis.  Your son's work may well acquire quite an international following.

ooooo, interesting world isn't it?

How exciting for you GrannieAnnie.

My OH loves Firefly, and Serenity - those are things he will watch time and time again.  Thanks for this - I may see if somehow I can get a copy for him.
