Sweetcorn - no sign of cobs

Wonder if anyone knows what I've done wrong.  Sweetcorn is fine and tall and strong, and the top flowers are looking good.  Not a sign of any cobs - I have about 30 plants and not a one showing signs of life.  We've had a really dry hot summer here but I'd have thought that would have pushed them into action?

be  patient . have formed silks yet and what  variety are they.

Longalot there's nothing there at all.  Just some leaves sticking out of the stems, but none look like there's anything going to happen.  Need to look tomorrow to see the variety.  I can't believe none of them will even try to produce  :(

you need to be patient. corn takes time.

That's interesting....my corn developed weeks ago but they don't seem to be fattening up; very slender. The silk has turned brown (so it seems, hard to judge,the rainfall has changed the colour of them). When do I harvest them?

Sneak a look at a cob. If it's not ripe you can fold the leaves back over it if you're careful. You could have left them too long before planting out and checked their growth; corn hates this.

Our corn is doing ok now, BUT a lot smaller then last year!

My Incredible has tassels but no silks yet.... they were a bit late in terms of sowing and planting out but they shouldn't have had a check, it was proper hot back then...

You were right Longalot - spotted the first signs of life at the end of last week, so now the silks have appeared.  Not over confident they will come to anything, I think it might be too late, but fingers crossed.

Dont't give up on them yet.  We have two more months for them to ripen up.  We often have some farily decent weather in September and October.  I planted some very late last year and thought that they would not ripen but in the end surprised me and just snuck in on time.  If not consider picking some of them as immature baby corns before they fertise at all.

My cobs are a lot shorter than usual, and from tonight we will have eaten them all. But I have another younger group that I assume will come to nothing.

But "We have two more months for them to ripen up" is a very encouraging statement!

Indeed!  I do remember picking in October a couple of years ago.  I guess I panicked a bit when all around me had silks swaying in the breeze and I had zilch  ;)

we have just finishe dour harvest, had soooo much ,some went to far because of the amount we grew,

our 5 girls (of the feathered type) have been indulging a great deal in it ;D
