Taking tops of potatoes

When peeps take thier tops of the main crop potatoes how long do they normally leave them in the ground before they harvest them

Anyone harvesting them yet?

If there is any sign of blight I leave them for 2 weeks, hope that helps  :)

thanks, thats why took the tops of at the weekend,due to seeing signs of blight, so of they came!

If they were blighted make sure that you clean up all the debris, then leave them for at least 14 days which allows the spores to die of as well as allowing the skins to set.

However, cutting the tops down is a last resort.  If your find blight there is plenty you can do to keep the plants going for another couple of weeks to make sure that you get the best possible crop in the ciurcumstances
