I recently bought some strawberries from local Co-op shop. They were called Evie & were really tasty. I think I saw a post recently where someone had used an actual fruit to use as seeds. Has anyone done this please.

Growing from seed will not give the same fruit as offsets. The problem is cross pollination, there is always the risk that pollen from another variety contributed toward the seed. The resulting seeds may be much poorer quality than either of the donor plants. However, try it, it will be an interesting experiment but don't rely on it for a crop.

That posting was probably mine ... I saved some seed from a "Sarian" strawberry and sowed it last October. The plants haven't come exactly "true", but the fruit is perfectly acceptable. Just bear in mind that if the parent plant of your "Evie" strawberry was a hybrid (it probably was), then the resultant plants/fruit may not be identical to the original ... that's not to say it won't be very nice ... just possibly different  ;)

Try it and see, it'll only cost you a pot of compost  ;D

Thanks. Just hope they've got some left. I don't buy strawberries as they're usually Elsantas, even OH enjoyed the Evie, unheard of ;).
