I've had an amazing crop of peas....lush green and succulent! but to my horror this evening I noticed they're covered in white blotches. What does this mean?

If you mean that the pods have patches on them, like translucent marks in the skin, it's probably thrips. If you mean that the pods have a white powdery coating, it's probably mildew.

Thank you jennym for your reply. I didn't make myself very clear....sorry. I was referring to the pods. It looked as if someone had tipped bleach onto them....loads of white blotches on most of the pods. Really weird. Considering how healthy they looked they now look a bit sick   :(

Is mildew caused by over watering?......I'm thinking of the tropical rainstorms we had the other day

post a picture, cuts out all the guesswork.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

Could it be sunscald, watering on a very hot day, water droplets can act like a magnifier in blazing sun

When God blesses you with a multitude of seeds double  the blessing by sharing your  seeds with other folks.

Ninnyscrops.

Have you picked a pod and checked the peas inside?

I get pods with patches like that, but the peas are fine.

I don't think so  :) I always water my allotment between 9.30 and 10.00pm. A. it stops the plants being scalded. B. watering on a very hot day doesn't help the moisture to stay in the soil for long before it's absorbed into the atmosphere.

I feel the later in the day the better  :) Thank you for the suggestion  :)

aye, I have checked the peas inside and they seem fine. Thank goodness!  :)

Thank you  lincsyokel2 for doing some research :) I think you're possibly right....it could be downy mildew. The plant does feel extremely damp after our freak tropical storm; two days ago. The storm virtually lasted all day. You can see how heavy it fell because my crop have splashes of mud all over them.
