I have been growing vegetables for 37 years and only managed in the past to get one 3 inches across.  But this year I have some nice sized ones.  A huge thank you to everyone who has posted tips and hints.  I followed them all.  I have a few small ones and some that have blown but finally I have several perfect caulis. ;D ;D ;D

The winning formula seems to boil down to water water feed water water feed water water water water.....  And I think that plenty of sunshine must have helped along the way.  Seems netting helped because the ones that a pigeon nibbled have not produced heads and it only had a tiny amount.  I also mulched them and this was obviously beneficial, for some reason I had it in my head that mulching brassicas was a bad thing.  They had plenty of BFB and extra nitrogen.
